Depends on the severity of injury and damage to the joint integrity and ligaments between acromium, clavicle and coracoid. type of injury in severity is classified as I, II, III, IV, V, then VI. What have You got?. The time to heal before doing wild, strong, overhead, physical exercise varies. The ligaments will heal by themselves in I and II and maybe III if enough proximation of the structures is there. But already by III often in sporting people, then thro to VI, surgical intervention is indicated for long term good results. Lifting the arm above 90° is not allowed at outset as it stops approximation of the ends even in typ II, which should have a 4-6 week rest before heavy activities.
What have you been told by your doctor? In typ III there can be damage to deloid and trapezius muscle attachments so be careful about trying strengthening if you haven't been instructed enough about your injury.
