Where do you feel the pain... if it's in the front of your knee Id be thinking it could be a patellar tendinopathy from all that downhill walking your did... or it could be a patellofemoral tracking issue (which can be also coming from ankle or hip) and it came on with the intense walking. Go get some physio though. From what you'v said I could name 4 or 5 things that it could be and would need to see you to differentiate.
