    Brief Medical History Overview

    9 weeks post op acl

    Physical Agents In Rehabilitation
    Hi

I am 9 weeks post op after having my ACL reconstructed using my hamstring for the graft. Knee feels good, swelling is coming down slowly. I have 125 degrees range of motion. I do however have some niggles. When i tense my quads there are some stange pains in the knee. When i bend the knee there are again some strange pains in the there and it feels very tight. There is no heat off the knee.
My questions are what should i be feeling in the knee at this stage, when will the swelling stop and when will the knee start to feel like mine again?

    Thanks

Post ACL you should be seeing a physio? are you? they should be able to answer that question for you.
healing times vary for everyone... for your knee to feel 100% it's usually 6 - 12 months after op depending on the demand you are placing on the knee - e.g. if your trying to ski or something it may take longer to feel good.
Your knee feeling tight with bending and the strange pains are generally pretty normal at 9 weeks - depending on exactly how strange your pains are.
As for the swelling - it all depends on the demand you put on your knee and what your goals are... As you continue to do more and more things which put more demand on the knee that causes the swelling to stick around a little longer.
You should be seeing a physio if you arent already.

Re: 9 weeks post op acl

    Hi

Thanks pudding bowl for your reply. No i'm not seeing a physio at the moment. I am following a set course of exercises given to me by physio, but do not see him on weekly basis. Its a slow build up in exercises. Can start to do some light jogging at week 12. See surgeon again in middle of January for him to check everything over before being told what i can and cant do in the following months.

    Thanks again
