Some questions regarding a back injury
Hello, firstly I want to thank you for such a wonderful service.
Okay, onto my question:
About a year ago I suffered a herniated disk when I twisted whil lifting a heavy chair. After this I became very nervous about moving my back, no bending, no twisting, and my lifestyle went from very active to very sedentary. I finally saw a physio about 8 months after the original injury and he told me it was very important to move my back normally and I will not hurt myself just by moving. I am trying to move normally but I find it very hard to do now. Also my muscles have become weak due to inactivity
My questions:
1. Is it safe to bend and twist (while unloaded)
2. Can a long term sedentary lifestyle cause structural damage to the spine or does it just weaken the muscles?
3. Can you damage your disks by sitting for long periods of time?
4. I get nervous turning over in bed, especially because sometimes my back 'cracks' when I do this. Can you damage your spine like this?
5. What causes ddd?
Thanks in advance for any help.
