    hip problem

    Physical Agents In Rehabilitation
    Hi,

About 8 months+ ago one of my hips clicked while I was playing basketball and it was quite sore for a while. The pain went away, although sometimes I could feel that my hip wasn't quite right(the muscles around it don't seem as strong). Then for the last month my hip has seemed fine untill yesterday i was stretching before a game and it clicked again-and now clicks every so often. The pain is not a issue now, i'm just a little concerned that i'm being impeded from training fully and that it might develop into something worse.

I would appreciate it if someone could identify what my problem is or could give me advice on what I should do.

    Cheers

    Hi

There are two conditions that can lead to a clicking hip. If the clicking occurs over the outer region of your hip (on the side) then it is usually due to tightness in one of two muscles (tensor fascia lata or TFL, or gluteus medius) Stretching of these muscles helps as does working on strengthening pelvis / stability muscles.

If the clicking is over the front of your hip then it is due to another muscle called psoas. Again you need to stretch the psoas muscle and work on strengthening your pelvis. Deep tissue massage to your psoas muscle will also help.

    Hope this helps
