    Brief Medical History Overview

Broken fibula and open dislocation of the ankle

    Physical Agents In Rehabilitation
    Hi,

I had the above injury back in July 2008 and I am now back to pretty much full health, however, in the interveneing year and a half I have gained almost 50 pounds in weight due to my inactivity.

I want to start going back to the gym but a am unable to run or walk for any length of time without pain in my ankle.

It has been suggested that something lika a cross-trainer could be the way to go as it is not weight bearing. I am a little concerned that the action on my ankle may do more harm than good.

    Any thoughts?

    Many thanks

Re: Broken fibula and open dislocation of the ankle

    hi,

You must start doing hot fomentation for the foot. And do some active ankle exercises.

To loose weight, if running is not posible, do some other exercises like on swiss ball or treadmill.

    Hi,

    thanks for your reply.

A couple of things - what is hot fomentation? Also, do you think using a cross-trainer is a bad idea?

    hi,

cross trainer is not a bad idea. you must do exercise on cross trainer.

Hot fomentation is for the ankle. take some luke warm water,
add a pinch of salt and
    few drops of oil,
then immerse your foot for 10- 15 mins.
You will find relief in pain as well as full range of motion
