    Brief Medical History Overview

    Hamstring injury recurring

    Physical Agents In Rehabilitation
    Hi all,

Been struggling with a hamstring strain for few months. Play a lot of soccer so struggled on but I have been resting for a month. I have had 3 bouts of physio and they said it could have something to do with calves and ankle ligaments too. tried to jog on it tonight and pain still bad.

I also have pain in my adductor...so Im wondering if there could be a connection between this and my hamstring probs?

    thx

    Re: Hamstring injury recurring

There are many things this could result from. Obviously your assessing physiotherapist would have checked to see if the origin of your pain was from your lower back. If it is just a muscular problem, correct strengthening of the hamstring muscles (especially an eccentric strengthening programme) is extremely important. Also, strengthening of the stabilising muscles of your lower back and hip region is important too. If your hips and core are not strong, your hamstrings sometimes have to work overtime to do the stabilising for them.

Once your hamstrings are stronger, it is important to reintroduce fast contractions of the muscles to prepare them to be able to cope with speed on the pitch.

If you are still having pain jogging, I assume your initial hamstring injury was fairly severe? Gentle stretching of the hamstrings, glutes and surrounding hip muscles is important.

Perhaps another visit to your physio is in order.

    Aircast Airselect Short Boot
maybe there's a neural aspect to this. seems to be going on a little bit longer than one would expect for a "normal" hamstring tear..

have a qualified physio assess your lumbar spine and neurodynamics in detail. by this i mean slump test, straight leg raise etc and see what comes up.

you could google straight leg raise and have someone try it on you either if you cant see a physio. see does it or the slump reproduce some of your symptoms.
