    Brief Medical History Overview

    Pain in Big Toe

    Physical Agents In Rehabilitation
    Good afternoon.

I hope someone can offer some advice. About 6 weeks ago I bashed my second/third little toe. The second toe was badly bruised and swollen. I had to bear the weight when walking on the inside of my foot. About 10 days later I used a toe protector and played golf. The following morning I was in agony. The ball of my big toe was swollen just above it an on the outside. After a few weeks it was much better, but when running upstairs one day I did not get one of the steps right and had to push up with my big toe. I felt a bit of pain but not much. I asked my wife to massage the toe and the pain was just in one place and that is on the outside of the ball at about 2 o'clock positioning. I asked to keep massaging even though it was painful. I woke the following morning in pain an unable to walk on it. It has been a week now and the swelling is almost gone. The symptoms I am now suffering are , 1. If I extend the big toe at a certain point it feels like something is pulling just above the ball and on the outside, 2, at the 2 o'clock position if I push on it I get a sharp pain. I can bear weight on the inside of the big toe ok but on the outside it is painful. Not sure if this has added to the problem but when playing golf I was trying a new stance. Rather than the ball of the foot being on the floor the new stance meant that the ball of the foot was slightly off the floor but I still had to turn through the swing thereby having to rock back onto the ball rather than it normally being on the floor. Any help advice would be very much appreciated.

    thanks

    Re: Pain in Big Toe

Hi all. Thanks to those who have viewed my post. Just wanted to update. I can put wieght on the foot with slight discomfort. I was able to walk round town with the family for a couple of hours yestday and was ok BUT I cannot seem to turn on the toe. Pain is sharp when I extend the toe naturally and is now only painfull at full extension upwards, very minimal pain on downward bend. If I put a finger between 1st and 2nd toe and push the big toe I outwards I get a sharp pain but not to bad. Any ideas?

    Thanks

    Re: Pain in Big Toe

Any advice? State of play is as follows. If I push toe upwards with finger very little pain. If I stand on foot and lift big toe upwards more pain. If I tap on outside of ball of foot (at 5pm position) sharp pain. I have been walking with shoes and get a sharp pain on the outside of the ball of the foot. If I hold big toe and next toe together and lift up no pain. With ref to sharp pain it started at 1pm and seems to have worked down to 5pm. I can walk up the stairs putting 80% of weght on the foot. I can sleep at night with not ache now. Please offer any advice It is very much appreciated

    Re: Pain in Big Toe

Further to my last post I want to update and please ask for a bit of advice. I am virtually free of any pain. Over a 2 day period from Thursday gone the toe has got so much better and all I have done is to tie my shoe laces a lot tighter. I can move my foot from side to side with no pain on the outside of the ball of the toe and I can virtually put fill weight on it. The only thing I am suffering is; 1. When I extend the toe full upwards (which I could not do at the beginning of the week) I get what feels like a pulling feeling on the outside of the ball at 5pm. 2. If I tap on that area then a slight pain. What can I do to help it healo fully? The week commencing 21 June I have three golf days for charity which I do not to miss. What can I do to help my toe. Any help much appreciated and then I will leave you all alone. Honest

Thanks for your reply. I think there was very slight discolouration. I was unable to determine if it was swollen. This toe I smashed about 4-5 years ago. It looked like a jigsaw on the x-ray. Since then the toe and the ball has always been bigger than the other big toe and to be honest looking at it now it does not seem any smaller than I can remember. The pain did carry on without shoes. It is much much better now. I had been iceing it. All I have now is a slight pain when pushing the ball at 5pm an the pain is on the outside of the ball and not underneath it.
