Inflamed radio-carpel ligament - guitarist
Hello everyone
I was playing guitar seriously 9 months ago (5-6 hours a day) and hurt my wrist in the process. It took 4 months for the pain to go away and I started playing again but the pain came back within 2 weeks. Took another rest and it came back again in a similar way.
Two weeks ago I went to see a physiotherapist because resting it clearly wasnt enough. Its my RIGHT wrist, the one used for picking/strumming the strings so im guessing the repetative up-down motion has caused the injury. The physio said it was an inflamed radio-carpel ligament and he did some treatment - put some electric current through it, put some sort of microwave machine on it and a hot pad to increase blood flow.
I had 2 sessions with him, the 2nd he showed me some exercises because he said I had to strengthen the wrist area as thats why it keeps coming back. They involved putting resistance from my other hand on my thumb and then trying to push my thumb outwards, then upwards in the same way, then putting resistance on my hand and pushing my wrist up. He said do this for short times but frequently.
I was just wondering what people think? I am really passionate about guitar and my music and its killing me everyday not being able to play so I need to get this sorted! Has anyone got any suggestions to aid in a fast recovery, or help in the long term prevention to stop this coming back the next time it feels like its healed. And the big question... do you think I will be able to play guitar properly again, or will this just keep coming back?
Thank you, I really appreciate any comments
