    Brief Medical History Overview

Help! Ligament damage, Sciatica or Piriformis?

    Physical Agents In Rehabilitation
I'm 30yr old male i used to work out {mainly jog, doing sit ups and stretch} daily, played tennis twice a week. After an uphill (very steep hill) contest, pain started immediately in my lower back. I think I either twisted or tore something not sure. It has now been 2 years, no major changes for better or worse. The back pain is no more.
The nature of my work is such that i sit on a computer all day...)

The pain is localized around my lower left butt, towards the hip area-near the joints (PHOTO ATTACHED) Pain is felt mainly when I bend to touch my toe, when doing a humstring stretch, bend or do the piriformis stretch, or the piriformis nerve floss-PAIN IS MOST EVIDENT WITH THIS.
My lower back seems ok, though oddly I have no problem sitting just discomfort after sitting for long hours-not pain. No pain when sleeping, driving, walking and almost all other activities.
Pretty much normal till I stretch. When lying on my back and I raise my leg up when it get to like 60 degrees, that’s when I start to feel the pain.

I’ve seen a Chiro who treated my lower back, and iasked me to do some exercises. I can not really say I feel much different.

Issues in the piriformis can lead to sciatica. Suggest that you feed back to your Chiro that the current treatment is not making any positive change. That gives them the chance to alter the treatment approach to find the cause. Usually this is a multifactorial issue including the lumbar spine, pelvic, muscles in the backside etc. Also the way you sit on your chair during the day could well be an issue.
