    Brief Medical History Overview

How can I treat an injury to my serratus anterior?

    Physical Agents In Rehabilitation
    hello

About a month ago, I believe (not confirmed by doctor) I pulled my serratus anterior area. Initially when it happend I got sudden tingling, then almost numb feeling in my arm then weakness. The weakness has subsided a bit but the ache still lingers especially when I over do it with daily chores... lifting kids in and out of crib/car seat/groceries,cooking, c leaning, laundry etc.

Sometimes when I sleep on my stomach My righ shoulder blade and arm will fall asleep often and there is alot of achy sensation in that area. I plan on having a consultation with a physio therapist later this month, but wondering what treatments are available for me? Does this area affect my wrist and thumb area? Sometimes My forearm will feel tight and my thumb will twitch from time to time on and off and feels weird/weak but it's not really weak because I can still use it. Thanks in advance.

An Wikipedia reference-linkMRI of my neck revealed a mild disc bulge in my C5-6 area and my doctor told me that is common and does not look like anything is impinged (though the MRI was without contrast).

Or does this sound more like RSI or thoracic outlet syndrome?

Re: How can I treat an injury to my serratus anterior?

    hi
As you have mentioned that its SA muscle pull but not confirmed by doctor u must b having neuropraxia as is neural tissue pull and yeah it may show tingling sensation toward ur limb. an moreover i would like to know whats your occupation? why u are feeling that is SA muscle pull mean what made u think that? i would rather advise keep your shoulder blade in retracted position by crepe and once u visit physiotherapist he should go for strighthned your shoulder blade muscle by doing retraction and shruging activity later followed by resistant training...and also would like to know once you go to physiotherapist let him diagnose then u may put this thought to him, As i haven't verified properly,
an regarding your disc bulge he is right as far its not showing impingement it fine and thoracic outlet syndrom just check for your radial pulse if its feble u have to see to TOS

Re: How can I treat an injury to my serratus anterior?

    Thank you for your reply.

To answer your questions, I am a stay at home mom. I think I injured my SA area, because when I touch that part, there is some achy feeling and sensitivity. Also, it seems to be a little swollen compared to my left side (not sure if it's swollen cause I keep massaging it). For the past 2.6 years I've had two children (29 months and 16 months) and always lifting them in and out of car seat, crib, etc. I did have a very painful small tear on the upper right side of my back during my second pregnancy but it eventually healed. I always have to use my right arm because I am right handed. I tend to drive pushing the steering wheel down alot (bad habit), but now I try not to.

well i have always been noticing that people are not getting aware after its injury but i will always prefer icing is the best option to subside your injury and pain too.now as you said being habit it become too difficult for you to adopt with left hand but my suggestion is that u have to compromise till you become all right yeah?and one more advise do exercise go to the gym make your self fit cuz what you are explaining to me is your day to day activity, if your loosing there, its question to your fitness yeah? and as you said u had muscle tear see for the muscle biopsy, mean why you got second episode of muscle tear people who connected with gym activity, athlete they don't have such issue why you only with normal activity?. if it come normal go ahead with what i said to you scapula exercise and give enough rest to your part, and i m not understanding why u want push to steering, cuz pushing activity aggravate your mentioned condition. try to avoid it b little careful saying I NOT TO its not the remedy yeah
