    Brief Medical History Overview

lower back pain from cricket bowling

    Physical Agents In Rehabilitation
Hey guys, I'm 15 and play cricket alot, i get lower back pain from cricket bowling and i can definatly say its from cricket becasue i'm fine it winter(becasue i dont play then) and after training it always hurts. I've had it since maybe around 14 or maybe earlier cant really remember.

I'm a right handed bowler and it hurts on my left side it around: if you put your hand on your rib cage at the side of you body then move you hand round to just to the left of you spinal cord. that area.

it doesn't hurt when i stand straight up with my chest forwards and shoulder back. but when lean forwards up to 40 degrees that where it really hurts. from 45 degrees down it doesn't hurt at all. but then when you down, you gotta get up again and from that 40degree angle to straight it hurts again. It hurts way more if i'm bend down to pick up something as little as 5 kgs and go back up. It also hurts quite a lot when i sneeze probably because i go into the area of pain.

I'm recently found this thing called the the drop step front foot block. Its a technique to get more pace when bowling and i've only just discovered it. heres some infomation on it : http://www.maverickscricket.com/medi...opStepSpin.pdf and heres a video of it in action - YouTube - Catherine Dalton. I've only tried maybe 10 at full speed at training and the day after my back was killing more than ever. But then the day after that when i wake up it hardly hurts at all but i know if i start bowling again it will hurt again. I feel this technique really throws you upper body forward heaps bending my back down rapidly.

If anyone could help that would be much appreciated. any exercise i could to do improve core strength of something that would help. The season finishes in 3 more match so after that i will have 5 months to recover.

    thanks a lot guys.

P.S i still plan to use the drop step front foot block

Re: lower back pain from cricket bowling

    Aircast Airselect Short Boot
Hi there - The video of the throw is pretty impressive; my thought is that you have strained a small muscle in your lower back; there are all sorts of short little muscles that help support the spine and move it through space; a strain to a small group of these paraspinals could go unnoticed during the off season, but when called upon to lengthen and support the spine during sporting activities the pain returns; it's treated just like any other strained muscle in the body, i would see if you can have someone identify the point and work it manually with massage and stretch; if you notice improvement then a progression of exercises to get you to full bowling speed would be indicated; a trip to your local physio would likely get you going in the right direction. Regards.
