    5th Metarstal Break

    Physical Agents In Rehabilitation
Hi, I am a 41 year old woman, who 8 weeks ago broke my 5th Metatarsal whilst walking my dog. I tripped and fell on a pothole in the road. I went to A and E and they x~rayed me and i had a below knee plaster cast. I had it on for 6 weeks, then went back to fracture clinic, I had cast removed i wasn't offered another x~ray or physio. Two weeks on im still in pain so went back to GP today who sent me for x~ray and i ended up back at a and e. The break hasn't fused properly. I now have a toe slab and another appointment for the fracture clinic on Wednesday. Can you give me any advice as to what may happen next? Thanks.

Sorrry to hear about your break Jacqui

Hi Can I add a question ? Now into my 11th week - same fracture, diplaced ,left foot. Know it can be a very slow process to heal. But I am concerned that when I put my foot on the floor and try and flex it at the ankle and lift my toes off the floor - I can only raise them about an inch off the floor. Is this common? Any exercises? I am still weight bearing through my heel in an air cast boot - so thankfully I can take it off.

    Aircast Airselect Short Boot
    Hi,

Once your 5th Metatarsal Fracture is on the right course of management (ideally as determined by an orthopaedic specialist), I would suggest seeing a physiotherapist for appropriate rehabilitation, treatment and exercises following your 5th Metatarsal Fracture. In the mean time you may be interested in checking out the above links for detailed information on these injuries including treatment.

    Hope that helps,
