    Brief Medical History Overview

Just irritable - ? Inguinal / Spigelian Hernia

    Physical Agents In Rehabilitation
    From the start.

Getting back into the fitness. I had been running, on dirt tracks, doing roughly 5 kms every second day. My level of fitness seems to stay present all the time for some reason.
Also have a rowing machine and spin bike I have been using for exercise.

One night before heading out for tea I did a quick run, roughly 3kms, then came home and did some light weights.
I decided it would be a good idea, turned out it wasn't, to lay down on my rower slide and use the seat as a shoulder/back pad to do some flyes.

Not heaps of weight, around 20kg on each dumbell. I rolled them across the ground, laid on the rower and picked up the weights.
Did some presses, around 16 and the same amount flyes, then I made a stupid mistake.

Instead of rolling the weights back to the deck like I picked them up. I held them at chest height and used my stomach muscles to sit up and move sideways to swing my legs around i one motion.
I felt a strange sensation almost like a pop/pressure in my lower left stomach near the inside of the hip bone about an inch or two from the top. Stood up and it felt like a stitch only more painful. I walked it off and the pain subsided.

Didn't think much of it, scorned myself for being stupid and went out for tea. Only felt mild discomfort that night and slept well. Since I woke up that day, now two weeks ago, I have felt a pressure in my lower abdmone on the left side, funny sensations down my inside left thigh and sometimes pain in my left testicle.

Went to the doctor the other day, we have some ordinary ones here, he listed to me symptoms and said "You have a Wikipedia reference-linkspigelian hernia!"
Went to get an ultrasound, had to wait a few days, and they found no lump or anything on the ultrasound. Went back to emergency department in pain and he did some tests, some good some I still cringe over.
The one that rasied the eyebrows and some expletives was where he held my left testicle up in my head direction whilst lying down and asked me to cough. O M F G! The pain was excrutiating! He laughed and said, yes you have a hernia. Because the ultrasound didn't show anything he said not to worry, have aprescription for Panadeine Forte and enjot yourself.....
Rang my GP, I use that term lightly, and he pretty much told me to get over it and it's only a stomach strain... Well I have had a strain there before and it feels nothing like the last one.

I was hoping someone here may have an answer to what teh hell is going on with me? It is getting to the point of giving me the absolute shits!
The pain is probably on about a 3-4 constantly, I get sweats and feel like vomiting sometimes, then the pain ramps up to about an 8 in waves.

Sorry about the 500 word essay. Anything you guys can give me in way of tests to double check? I have another appointment with the best GP in town Friday so heres hoping he can sort it.

    Cheers

    Matt

re: Just irritable - ? Inguinal / Spigelian Hernia

    Update

Went to see the good GP today. I was given some more tests to try including another ultrasound.
Seems I have a small hernia which is nothing to worry about apparently, as the size means nothing will get through.
But they found that I have almost detached my adductor tendon from the bone.

So appointments with Physio over the next few weeks to sort it out, of it doesnt come good some kind of surgery.

Anyone got some good exercises I can do that will help out the adductor issue?

    Thanks

    Matt

Patience and time is something you need to take on board. A strain or tear like a hernia is always going to take along time. The same goes for a bone-tendon attachment area. The tissues healing is not going to be as great as it was before the injury and the likelihood or reinjury is therefore increased. Your physio should be able to provide you with a progressive regimen for improving your stability in the area whilst protecting the weakened structures. The plan depends on your full physical assessment e.g. lumbar mobility, pelvis control on the lumbar spine and about the hip joint. Balance of hip rotations and therefore muscle function in structures like piriformis and functional mobility of psoas etc.

I am not sure why you were so irritable about the first assessment. Seems they did diagnose it as a hernia type tear. One that they suggested was not worth operating on (at that time) but correct in their assumptions. Now it seems an adductor tendon injury is also present which may have happened at the time if you hooked you legs under the rower bar to help you sit up (if not perhaps that was an injury that occurred at a different time?).

p.s. 20kgs is now so much for the chest press but an additional 40kgs of upper bodyweight on the abdominal region when sitting up is perhaps a large load compared to what those muscles and fascia are used to!

I guess the heading was a bad one. The irritation came from the nagging pain and not the diagnosis.
    Thanks for the feedback.
