good advice from all. one question is what level of football do you play, competitive, social etc, do you train etc. are you goalkeeper or outfield player? acl surgery and rehab is also big committment 9-12 mths, minor risk from surgery, some time of work etc so weigh up against conservative. dependent on your level you can do without acl but i agree with comments below. maybe give conservative rehab a go, return to football and see how it feels. if no good not wasted as pre-hab is always good before surgery. even after acl repair you can still go on to meniscal tears, as is possible when you did your acl in first instance the mensicus was damaged.
strength, co-ordination, proprioception (balance) and control (+/- brace) key to good knee function - get with a good rehab physio and see where you end up.
