Brief Medical History Overview
Severe leg shaking
Evening, there's a bit of a back story behind this so I shall describe the back story first.
My girlfriend who is approaching her 25th birthday, two years ago in March she started having seizures (of which she had NEVER had before). After a week of MRIs and IV Antibiotics she was moved to another hospital to as her seizures seemed come and go. They seemed to subside and she was released from hospital. After a week she relapsed and was readmitted to hospital. She was placed on 4 different anti convulsive meds to stop the fits. However after some testing she was found to have some damage to her occiptital lobe and left her with a reduced feeling down her right side with much weakness on that side. She had also lost her right peripheral vision. After many many many tests later, MRIs, PEP scan, CTs etc etc etc and a muscle biopsy later they finally diagnosed her with a POLG1 Mitochondrial disorder.
However whilst she was in the hospital she suffered a partial stroke down her left side which left her temporarily blind. Her left side regained its strength and her left peripherial vision returned. However she has still been left with a reduced feeling in her right foot to which doesnt seem to be improving vastly in sensitivity. She also has a clawing of her right foot that also doesnt seem to be improving. Some days it seems to claw less than others, but normally when exercising it claws a lot. Which is somewhat awkward since her balance is still well of and this hinders her quite a bit.
She has been having NHS Physio for about a year and will soon be signed off as they think she will be fine performing her exercises at home and physio wont be able to improve her much. Some of the exercises she performs are lay on her back with her knees up in the air feet flat on the ground. To which her right toes periodically claw as she does the exercises. She then raises her hips and with them raised, drops her knee out to the side and back up again. She does this repeatedly. There are other exercises which are similar, all involving her lifting her pelvis.
The major problems she has doing these exercises are 1) the clawing of the toes and 2) when shes lifting her pelvis to do the exercises her right leg shakes quite violently as if the inner muscle around her crotch/thigh is contracting and releasing rapidly. No matter how much we try to exercise these 2 issues are causing her serious mental and emotional issues, to the point where she is so upset and in tears by the time she has finished as she cant control the leg to stop it from shaking.
can anyone PLEASE help
