I suffered a grade 2 tear (36x 15mm in diameter) 6 weeks ago while playing Australian rules football. The injury is adjacent to the proximal fibula. I have not been able to play sport since the injury and I was wondering any forms of rehab exercises you may have to help me speed up my recovery and what type of exercises I can do to increase my fitness once again without irritating the injury?

Hi Troy1234,
Just wondering what kind of symptoms are you experiencing? and how did you injure it?
Test balancing on you injured leg and compare to your opposite side. If there is a deficit then working on your balance is a good place to start.
The main actions of your peroneal longus muscle is turning your foot out and up as well as a very important stabiliser of the ankle.
- Balancing on one leg
- One legged squats
- Isolated foot eversion with resistance band Resistance Band Eversion
The main thing to remember though is if you have pain or discomfort please do consult a physiotherapist for treatment which may consist of soft tissue therapy and joint mobilisations. They will also be able to assess where your deficits lie and direct you specfically to the rehabilitation exercises you need.
Hope the helps.
