Hello, my name is Jenkins. I am 22 years old and i am very active. I've been weight training for about 4 years, 3-5 times a week. I used to run around 3 miles 4 - 5 days a week for the past 5 months but i recently increased my distance to 4 to 5 miles 4 - 5 days a week in the middle of June.

Two days ago, i went out for a 5 mile run at 8:30am in the morning and i rested at home for the remainder of the day. At 6pm, i got up from my chair i suddenly felt pain on my left foot on the top left side (fifth metatarsal i think). It only hurts when i walk or run and i am currently limping. It does not hurt when i bike. It isn't swollen and it doesn't hurt when i touch it. This has never happened to me before and i have never twisted or harmed my foot in any way during the runs or anything outside of my runs.

Some advice would be much appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Re: Unknown Foot Pain

Hi Jenkins. How's your foot pain? Is it better, worse or same? When you run or walk on it, how bad is the pain out of 10 (where 0=no pain and 10=maximum pain). Can you walk on your toes? It's hard for me to say what you got but the only recent change to your training program is the increase of running distance so its making me to think possible bone bruising/ stress fracture of 5th metatarsal? You might want to see your doctor for an X ray of your foot for possible fracture. You should rest and once the pain is better then try gradual return to walking/ running. Good luck and hope you get better!

    Re: Unknown Foot Pain

Thanks for the reply iphysio. My foot is all better now and I've been running 3 days after I posted this thread. I think it was just inflammation in the ligament within that area that was caused by running on too many hills. It was very bad but it's something that healed over time.

    Aircast Airselect Short Boot
    Hi,
It seems you have tendinitis in that area due to excessive exercise and my suggestion is to use RIC technique ( Rest, Ice, Compress) and don't do exercise or at lest running for 10 days.
    Hope get well soon.
