    Good night staff ,

I come here to leave you my very complicated story and I hope it get your good advice .

    To begin I 'm 22 , I'm a student of TI and im from Portugal, Guimarães .

When i was 16 years old ( 25/01/2009 )i had a fall from a bicycle doing downhill where I was paralyzed from the neck down . I made a contusion at the level of vertebrae C2 - C3.A recovery was 1st week can move a little big toe.2 week : now I move foot quadricipe , bicipe.3 week : kept the same moviments.4 week : small almost involuntary movements of index finger . Then i recovered gradually.I have a report which specifies the evolution of movements.I can take a scanner if you want to see . I had three months in hospital in Braga where he had a very good recovery , leaves it to take a few steps without getting wanderer . I did physical therapy for over about 1 year / 2 years and I ended up having a very good recovery . When doctors / physiotherapists deal with my case are quite admired because of that injury can only notice this after doing some tests . We note further level of spasticity in the hands and feet . All this motivates me to want to get better and better and think that in the midst of all the bad luck I was fortunate enough.

Now it happens that my body is very strange.I was required to know well how everything works in the human body and try to adapt the best possible tive. The injury that concerns me most right now is the level of joints that tou really bad . When i leave the hospital I measured about 1.80 and had 60 kg ( before 72kg + - ) . Was very dry should have a body fat of 8 % / 9 % . At this time I have won some muscle mass and weight 81kg , I measure 1.83 m and bf 13 % / 14 % . What I feel is that my body has lost the pillars , namely the muscles that hold the bone structure . And now anytime I appear small injuries.Had appeared to me a strong inflammation in the knee but managed to resolve the situation . Wrist and elbow also but very light .

It turns out that this time appeared to me an injury that ta to leave me completely desperate. I think it's a bursitis in the hip on the right side . Arose in December and since last Monday I started physiotherapy.

I complained that it was inflamed and they put me heats across the hip to the knee ... I thought strange but ok.A following massages quadricipites.I kept surprising.A bit about stretching cold just 8:30 with no heating .. over half a dozen demonstrations and send me back home. One week.Every during a day out there with the pain much acute.Dont know what to say ... I am not a physiotherapist but I realize that if I 'm with that inflamed i dont need to warm the inflamed area ... what tell me about this treatment?

Sorry for all this will, in the background is a vent who should imagine about my situation , not easy believe me.

If you need I can take videos of my current situation , whatever they want . Do whatever it takes to improve my health situation because I still have a few years ahead I hope.

    Hugs !

Notes:Sorry about my English hope you understand!

    Re: Hip bursitis

why do you think it is inflamed? Can you walk without help (no crutches or alike)? How is your balance? How is your strenght?

I think its inflamed because when i take anti-inflamatory pill i get better , when i do effort in gym the situation get worse.

My balance is almost as a normal person. If i walk look in the air i start walking bad, but if im seeing the ground i walk very well.I can take video if you want...

Strenght it's very good.I have more strenght that almost all of my friends. But i try to take care when i train with weigths.

If i dont say nobody can see that i have that injury, only medics and physiotherapist can see...

    Thank you for reply!

    Re: Hip bursitis

Having a past injury immediately waves a yellow flag to me.

Is there a chance that you have develop some kind of compensative posture/ walking habits (e.g. leaning towards one side unknowingly)? Usually people use their good leg/ arm more than the bad one, so overtime the joints on the good side get worn quicker than other healthy people.
Ask your therapist to work on your posture. From Lying in bed to sitting up, Sitting in chair to standing up, then taking steps while walking.... get her to tell you if she notice anything different compare to normal people and try to relearn them as perfectly as you capable. Maybe all you need is just even out the loading of your legs while standing and walking.

Regarding the inflammation, as a therapist myself I found that there is usually some level of inflammation in most problems. It doesn't mean I would use Ice for them all the time, if I think the main contributor of the problem is muscle too tight, unable to fully relax, then I would use Heat and massage followed by stretching. Its all about what I found out in the assessment at that time. If you find out the treatment doesn't work, you can go back and let her know. Or go find another therapist. Therapists have different approach to the same problem, because they have different experience and usually a bit biased towards a particular method. Sometimes, its trial and error. One method that works for most people doesn't mean it will work on you, or maybe you are at a different stage of the problem that has different needs.

This really is the kind of problem that needs hands on session with physiotherapist. Hope you get it sorted soon.

    Re: Hip bursitis

    Hello again...

Well after all this time im worse than i was when i started this thread.

I have searching on the internet and i think i have artritis reumatoide.

I will go talk with my doctor tomorrow about that. I have been take 2 pills of voltaren per day(50mg) if i want walk.

Kcho your post make much sense to me. I recognize your words very good with my problem. In this fase i still have a body that look good to my age.I have muscular mass , i have strengh , but im walking very bad now.Too slow .If i walk fast my left leg starts failling. I fall in the other day when i try to run.I feel an acute pain that i just cant stand and simply fall on the ground. But now im motivated to get good. I will start phisioterapy again with my main phisioterapyst , he is very good i believe i can get the support for my articulations with work.

If you guys wanna help me it will be good too.I can take pictures, movies too see my condiction.Im only 22 years old and i have so many years to live i think.Im positive.

    Hug

    Re: Hip bursitis

I think you take here I really gamble to conclude something just because of reading something on the internet! Already with your 1st diagnose you were wrong (if you conclude now otherwise). Knowing your background there is a massive amount of possibilities. Since you had a nerve problem a lot of possibilities come to mind. For me the most obvious ones would be related to muscle im-balances and their consequences. The consequences could be a change in loading of joints. On the hip joint already with walking there is a massive load onto the joint.
If you have not even had an X-ray this would be the 1st thing to do (to establish if there is any wear and tear of the joint). Further imaging will be most likely required to put a diagnose in stead of thinking you have Rheumatoid arthritis, which is a disease which has a tendency to be in the family. You do not get Rheumatoid diseases over night (unless you would have got infected e.g. Lyme disease).
Wear of the joint or anything alike would benefit from anti inflammatory medication. That drug does not tell anything of the cause only how to mask it so you can carry on with what ever you do.
My experience with neurological problems tells me that since you have had a C2-C3 problem in the past you must have quite some muscle imbalances. Notably shouldergirdle and Pelvis-hip are reknown to cause problems. Muscles used for good positioning of the parts of joints are not the muscles one normally strengthen; e.g Hamstrings, Quadriceps and so on. In case you have tightness of (all together) hipflexors, Hamstrings, ITB, Quadratus Lumborum and Piriformis and having established at the same time there is little wear of the hip the likely cause will be a muscle imbalance and the problem should be addressed as so.
I would like to advice you to stay away from self diagnosing from things you find on the internet but instead get your questions ready and fire them at your GP and your Physiotherapist. They have to be able to answer your questions so it makes sense. If you at that point go onto the internet and see if their answer makes sense to you is more productive. Be aware that the internet is a market, where people sell you their believes, their solutions, their products. It is not a library where a book gives you impartial information (well some attempt to do so)

Man thank you so much about your post.

I agree with everything you have said , in fact i always have in my mind that my problem its in the muscular tier and not articular. Im thinking about and i contract this problem when i decide to walk 3 km per day. After 4 ou 5 times doing this daily i start feeling a litle pain and then aggravated. What i think? When im walking i haul my legs to the front without controlling the moviment.I only think i want to move and dont do this with my muscles. This free moviment focus too much the articulation. Per example, i can squat with 50kg in my back for 10 repetitions. But i can't have the proportional strenght for adductors and abductors...I have the major muscles developed because i do gym since i live the hospital , but the minors muscles is very weak...

    What you think?

    Thank you .

    Re: Hip bursitis

Lets give this a go. You stand on 1 leg (do both sides so you can compare) you squat in case of weakness of minor muscles you will have trouble to control the movement. The hip should stay aligned with the knee and the knee aligned with the foot ( hip- mid knee cap vertical line pointing in between big and 2nd toe) If the knee points inwards or outwards (when you try to control) you will have weaknesses (mainly Gluts). If you see that your pelvis drops or rotates you have weaknesses (your body just attempts to hide weaknesses) (these are mainly core stability weaknesses).
You could try with a book from Joanna Elphinston about gymball exercises which works mainly on coordination and what I have seen is easy to understand because it is filled with pictures what is correct and incorrect and this may help you to solve your problem. Having said this: If you have not seen your Gp (imaging) or tried a Physiotherapist (best one who has worked or is working within sports to have a look you are taking some chance to get it all wrong.
