Hello
I have been experiencing various levels of discomfort and pain in assorted locations down the right hand side of my body for the last 5 years.
I am unsure as to which injury is the cause of it all, it may be multiple.
I have had a mixture of different therapies with the currently most successful and cost effective being lots of yoga.
However as I get older I notice it is becoming more of a struggle to keep things in check.
History -
For a good ten years I worked as a bartender which obviously means a lot of time on my feet. During this period I also had very bad standing posture, a lot of the time with weight shifted onto a fully straight right leg when standing still and rather large forward tilt in my hips caused by leaning over the work station to get close to the customers as I am only 5ft 8. Also the work means a lot of work from the right side of my body with pouring & shaking.
I moved on to management the last 6 years which includes running up and downstairs most of the night.
I started to notice symptoms 5 years ago when I started working out and obviously I was working out with a pronounced forward tilt to my pelvis so with all the lifting and squatting I had my first episode of very bad lower back pain.
My first physio diagnosed me with ITB syndrome and very tight hips. When lying on my back my right foot will point at 1 o'clock left foot about 2:30. I had acupuncture in my hips to release the tightness in my hips and a prolonged course of foam rolling. The physio also noticed that I have greatly increased musculature on the right hand side of my back.
I did feel better after 5 session but not completely healed so I tried a different type of therapy.
I visited a chi gung and body alignment coach who spotted the issue with my hips, the tightness in my right shoulder knee and ankle. The sessions spent with him were quite successful but also expensive so I had to stop after while.
Currently I still have -
a very tight right hip and sporadic pain and tightness on the outside of my right knee and ankle - also my right foot turns in slightly when i run..
There is a point about 2/3 down my right ITB which is always very painful to the touch
Tightness to the posterior of both shoulders and pain (whenever I lift ) inside my right shoulder - I think a may have light shoulder blade distortion from the use of forceps when I was borne.
Pain in my lower lumbar spine - some caused by a few weight lifting errors and my lower back also hurts when I run.
Pain in my right elbow and wrist but that might be due to separate injuries and trauma.
Current activities.
I am still very active though I now try to get mist of my exercise from yoga.
I will do unconventional training with kettle bells 2 -3 times a week with full warm up and stretching.
and the last year I have started cycling to work daily
i try and foam roll as much as possible - even though it is torture.
In conclusion I am a touch apprehensive about going to another physio until i can find the right one as my last one didnt really seem to do much and was expensive.
Do need a chiropractor, and osteopath or is there a physio who can tie it all together ?
Than you
