    Brief Medical History Overview

    Boxing injury...elbow hyper extension

    Physical Agents In Rehabilitation
Any help/suggestions would be really helpful.

I am an amateur boxer and am due to box on the 30th Nov (12 days).

I have picked up an injury whilst sparring a week ago, I went to throw a punch and locked my arm out to far, this was made worse by my opponent who managed to trap my arm and force it further past the point of comfort!

I have been applying ice twice a day for about ten minutes and it is slightly better than when I first did it but is still painful to extend of flex bicep.

I have twelve days to do as much as a I can to improve my elbow, should I do some light weights exercises to strengthen elbow joint? Should I just rest it?

    Please Help!!

Hi. Ice it more than that. i personally like 10mins on, 10mins off then 10mins on every 2 hours. Use a bandage wrap to control swelling. You can see a sports physician who may think a cortisone injection might help your inflammation. Usually in an injury like this you can pinch a fat pad or swell a joint.

    Good luck!

Thank you, will give it a go, hopefully will be slightly better before the 30th.

Do you think doing light reps for the Tricep will help? Or should I just stick with the Ice treatment?

    Thanks

can do some light reps - just don't go into pain without someone overseeing your rehab. Goodluck!

Thanks for the advice, unfortunately I lost! I have a rematch next week though.

The elbow was painful but numbed by pain killers!

will begin rehab as soon as i've boxed next week.

I think the trick for you now is to rest it untill it's pain free when doing normal (light) daily activities and then go through a rehab programme from there otherwise you ruin your training too, this in turn may jepodise future fights. Also, get the elbow checked for any laxity problems that may come about from the injury.

See a good sport/physio therapist will help in this situation, as sports therapy in the UK an unregulated industry (unlike physio) get a university qualified one.
