    PLAR process

Advertise your physiotherapy job on Physiobob's Job
I'm a PT from Illinois, USA. I completed my bachelors from India and applied for the canadian credentialing process last year. I received my report which states that i lack credits in
    1)research
    2) Professional and integrated practice
I am eligible for PLAR. I need to apply for these soon but i would like to get in touch with someone who has been in a similar/near similar situation.
How much time does this take and would i be able to take these online?
Also for #2 Professional and integrated practice is it fulfilled by doing the self study module called PT practice in Canada?
Any information would be helpful. Thank You.
    Ann

    Re: PLAR process

    hello, ann

for point 2, I also had PLAR as the alliance said that I lacked credits in local practice. I had a self study package to learn about the local regulation and professional practice. What u need to do is read the information, do the test and check the answers yourself, and then as the notary public to sign a declaration form for u. It all depends on your schedule and it did not take long. I only spent 7-10 days to complete it. In fact, you can do that within a few days.

    Re: PLAR process

Thank You Sanchill! That helps. I will apply for the module as soon as possible. Are you already licensed as a PT in Canada or are you still in the process?
Thank you once again and hope you have a nice day.

sowmiya, sorry for the late reply

as i know that there is a report card from each exam, maybe u can revise your weakest section first; or you may start with the neuro-MSK first as it covers 50% of the questions

if u have any questions, pls feel free to PM me; I will try my best to answer them

    Re: PLAR process

    Hello Friends,

I just received the credential evaluation report from the alliance. It was a lengthy report however, mainly they highlighted following points:-

    1) No sufficient credits in Psychology and need to cover some more.

    2) No evidence of credits in research design / methodology in UG education.

    3) No evidence of credits in autonomus practice / EBP / professional conduct, ethics and standards of practice / Principles of PT management and administration.

    4) No evidence for education context of PT practice in Canada within Canadian health context.

They have found above said minor gaps in PT education from India and have asked to either submit evidence which would demonstrate that these gaps are covered in my prior education OR apply for PLAR program to fulfill them.

I am about to complete MSc from UK and for the alliance I have applied on basis of my BPT education (from India). In my MSc I think I have covered point no. 2 and 3 (as mentioned above).

After completing credentialing process does anybody know whether the alliance can now consider these two areas (from my MSc which I had not submitted early)? If so then I would be lacking in just 1st and 4th areas (as above).

Can you please advice me in this scenario what could be a probable option for me as my last date to reply alliance is 17 Jan 2012.

    Many thanks,
    Nikhil

Advertise your physiotherapy job on Physiobob's Job
    Hey all,

I have done my physiotherapy from india and now will be moving to canada this year end most likely as my husband is a canadian citizen....but i heard that credential evaluation is a big headache for indian students, they ask for PLAR for most students, so how much time it takes to complete PLAR and then I heard that PCE exam is very difficult, indian students dont clear it in first try, so how many tries we can give max?

I was hoping to get some advice on the Written component of the examination. I am an internationally educated physio and currently assembling material to study for the exam. In particular, what are the most relevant & useful books to prepare for the exam.your response will be appreciated greatly.

    Thank you.
