PCE July or Sept 2010 - Study Group for Vancouver

Advertise your physiotherapy job on Physiobob's Job
    Hi All,

Just wanted to branch off of the PCE reference thread: http://www.physiobob.com/forum/worki...-thread-2.html

I will be sitting most likely the July 10th, 2010 exam in Vancouver. So if anyone wants to get together and study and share resources, by all means please feel free to email me at [email protected]

Here is a summary of info I found useful:

My experience told me that you need to be familiar with
    1) " Classified" type questions
    2) special tests for different joints and what are the positive findings
    3) S/S & Diagnosis for some COMMON orthopaedic and neurological conditions
I suggest you to have a look at the sample questions in the orientation resources and try to apply each question to different joints, diseases and practices.
I know that there is a new version of candidate handbook 2009 but I don't know if there is any change to the exam syllabus. BTW, please check every item on the lists because I found some "RARE" questions in the PCE ( which scared my pants off ) but they were listed on the EXAMINATION BLUEPRINT!!!

For those questions related to local practice, you can read the " Context of Physiotherapy Practice in Canada" if you went through the PLAR

Magee is good but there are too many tests, just study the common tests for each joint
    1) O'sullivan NPTE study guide ( I bought it online )
    2) Magee Orthopaedic Assessment
    3) Kisner and Colby for exercises and manual therapy guidelines
    4) The lecture notes from my university
    3) clinical oriented anatomy by Moore
There are so many SUGGESTED READINGS but it is not possible to buy all of them.
For all those who are about to give the written component, it is necessary to the Ethics part, in addition to all the books (O'Sullivan, Magee, Kisner, Siegelman, etc...)
Read the Ethics section in the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario website. I am sure the other provinces too will have similar sections. Read the scenarios and examples, you will get some clues. There is no book per se for Ethics which can be read.
At least 10% questions in the Written Component will be related to Ethics, so try and get them correct.
    THanks for your time.

    Also found this very useful:

The written component has 200 MCQ. Approximately 80% of which are Vignettes (Case scenarios).

    1. Neuromusculoskeletal 50%
    2. Neuro 20%
    3. Cardiopulmonary-vascular 15%
    4. Multisystem 15%
    Additional Comment I forgot:
    This is also useful:

Thus far I have found this information:
most important books are for review

    basic anatomy
    Sullivan guide
    Blue BOok
    Kisner 4th edition
    Magee
    Red Book

    Exams need to be solved:

    Peat 200 questions
    Micheal Dunaway 400 Ques
    Sullivan guide 600 Ques
    Blue book 200 Ques
    Therapyed online Exam 200 Ques
    Scott and Gills 800 Ques
Some exams 's CDs you can get with book

I am writing the PCE written component in July or September as well but unable to meet up in Vancouver as I currently reside in the US. I completed my MSc PT in Australia. Let me know if you are interested in using Skype once or twice a week for discussions. [email protected]
