    3rd year physio. student

    Hello,

I am new t this forum so i hope someone can help me out. I am 3rd year physiotherapy sTudent in Semmelweis University in Hungary, i have been asking my teachers out here what those bands mean when i finish the studies and what do i need to do? I dont want to stay here my plan is to look for a job in Scandinavian countries or US or Canada, they have told me that i need to start the registration right after, and start my practice at the place that i apply for a job, do i get paid while i am dong that? how is the registration work in Europe, US or Canada? Or do i need to complete some courses after while doing the practice because i understood that US is working only with Ms degree but its possible to complete some courses and still registare? How about Canada and Australian system? where is the best place to apply for a job in Europe where there is a need of physio? Or maybe its better to continue for Ms and then start working? Please if someone can help me out here i would really appreciate it. Thanks Best Rgrds

    Re: 3rd year physio. student

    Hi Elionora,

I am student in final year physiotherapy studying in INDIA and im plannig to study my masters in USA. I went to USA this september,2010 to have a look at the system and get an idea about doing physical therapy. Look first thing you need to do is get your degree of undergraduate evaluated in USA. they will take a look at ur subjects and will then decide whether your degree is valid in USA or not. For the evaluation there is a site "www.wes.org" which shows the procedure of evaluation. IF you are evaluated as having the degree equivalent to USA, then you will have to give, NPTE examination for getting the license to work in USA. remember every sate in the US has a different license and so you will have to decide first in which state you wish to stay and give the license examintion of that proper state.

On the other hand, if your degree is ot equivalent to the USA system, then they will recommend you to take the subjects you need to get the equivalent of Physical therapy degree. And US offers all kinds of degrees for physical therapy..... Undergraduate, graduate, doctor.

I am quite aware of the system of the US as im plannig to settle there... rest countries i dont know

If you get more newz regarding the US system, keep me updated. thank you

    Re: 3rd year physio. student

Well by seeing both of your reply , i want to say one thing , i too completed my bpt 9 months back and i am in the process to go to usa for masters. So as you said about wes its not only the evaluation process there are some more too, but wes is a goo option. If you prefer to get a good job in usa its a difficult process i will provide you the way which i know,
1} for job - first check the site fccpt, and then apply for credential evaluation which show your degree value compared to usa , but you check these degrees ( anatomy , physiology , psycology, physical lab 1,2 chemical lab 1,2 and modern physics , and few degrees are mandiatory in your undergraduate , but they should be of one year, and in usa except ( newyork, mitchigan } no other place will allow you to write npte without mpt ( as per my knowledge and information ) .
If you want i can provide you complete list of the subjects and processs .

    Re: 3rd year physio. student

Yes, you need to do your evaluation dear. and that evaluation process you will come to know from this site WES.ORG.

Just visit the site, you will get all the information you need for evaluation.

And look if your degrree is evaluated to be equivalent with the US degree, then and then only you will be allowed to attend the exam and if you pass, then you will be able to do the job as the licensed physical therapist. OTHERWISE NOT FOR SURE.

and after MPT( Master`s of PHYsical therapy) means, that you will have to do a post graduate degree in physical therapy, to become eligible to give the exam of NPTE.
