Knee clicking and possible muscle knotting?

I recently injured my knee (soccer) and led to an athroscopy for torn cartilage, but I have always thought this was a 'secondary' injury and believe it may have also been ligament damage. Anyway, cartilage sorted but i still have a 'clicking' when i bend knee and at the back i am sure i have a problem like a knotted muscle as it goes very hard restricted (back of right knee, left side).
I have also had shin pain which i thought may have been me oovercompensating during me injury.
    Lots of symptoms, any advice????

Re: Knee clicking and possible muscle knotting?

Possibly your shin pain is shin spints and your ankle biomechanics aren't brilliant which would have predisposed you to your knee injury. May be worth looking into a podiatry referral - but best to see a physio first to confirm that one.

The meniscal injury is often coupled with a ligament injury of the MCL and sometimes the ACL. By the time your meniscal injury has healed your MCL should have too - but if your biomechanics are off then this could slow the process.
During arthroscopy they would have seen in your ACL was overly damaged so we should be happy that this is ok.
With the clicking and posterior pain it's possible they missed a bit of Wikipedia reference-linkmeniscus in one of the areas near the back of the knee - heres hoping they haven't.

Based on all the possibilities based on your symptoms make sure you get stuck in with a good sports or musculoskeletal physio.

    Taping
The biomechanics of your knee functions in such a way that there is slight rotation taking place as you're extending and bending your knee. If you have a click that could come possibly because of a slight dysfunction with that mechanism (look up on 'screw home' mechanism) especially in certain angles. perhaps the rotation is stuck at a certain angle of knee extension and upon further extension forces the knee rotate to its normal position... then, again, it requires assessment. Consult your physiotherapist.
