Hi, I´m a physiotherapy student in Chile...currently in my last year. I also play football in a competitive league...... so about two months ago while I was playing: I was running and when I stepped on the tip of my toes of my right foot I felt like the bones in my foot separated... lots of pain etc. I didnt consider it much because the pain went away in a few days.... went back to playing in about a week or two and on the third week it happened again this time the pain was really bad..... I got an X ray but didnt show a fracture so it was diagnosed as a sprain in the metatarsal cuboid joint. Anyways my doctor made me wear an orthopedic boot ( excuse my english and correct me if I´m wrong) for supposedly 4 weeks due to the fact that its almost impossible to rest this joint because it moves everytime we walk. so I wore it for two weeks ...i didnt keep wearing it because i think wearing for too long wouldnt be the best either due to the fact that it was a slight sprain.
So most physios that i know havent seen too many injuries like this one.... but What I want to know is how long am I suppose to wear an orthopedic boot for when its a slight sprain????
I would like some feed back on my tretament:
I started with propioceptive work focusing on gaining stability.
isometric work on flexor and extensor of the first toe.
some ultrasound.....
and Obviously when it feels stable start with pliometry....
If anybody has experience in this type of injuries post back with feedback
thank you
