    Traumatic myositis ossificans

My son had blunt trauma to his quad one year ago.10 days later he showed sudden onset of severe pain, edema, limited range of motion and inability to weight bear. After 3 months of limited activity, stretching and strengthening the mass resolved. He had no formation of ossificans or limited function, thigh was residually larger.

Just today had another blunt kick (playing basketball) and has pain and mild swelling. Does anyone know the protocol for prevention of reaccurance of the mass??? I remember reading of positioning the knee in marked flexion with ice ace bandaged on, but cannot find the specifics of the protocol. Any other suggestion other than NSAIDs???

    Re: Traumatic myositis ossificans

The abstract has apparent that alarming myositis ossificans may yield up to 2 years to resolve. Physicial analysis protocols for this anatomy accept been argued in the literature. [3-5] Because alarming myositis ossificans is an aberrant pathology, little analysis has been completed in this breadth of treatment.

    Re: Traumatic myositis ossificans

My friend madison jones ... well i dnt know of which abstract u r saying ... there are various studies that i can send u suggesting that myositis ossificans can be resolved in less than 6 months .. just that a proper diagnosis is required .
u can tell me the pathological site , the history , and whther its MO or MO progressiva...cuz that again is a gentic condition and very rare .

but if it is MOT than its very much treatable provided ... u knw wht u r trying to do with it ...
mobilise or irritate it more .. it will grw , bt not than it can be resolved.

    Re: Traumatic myositis ossificans

    Taping
    dear sir,

I had a capitellum fracture on june 2 , 2010. Open reduction Internal fixation with 2 herbert screws. I have limited ROM , I had good extension after 6 weeks of Physiotherapy. Later I have developed myositis ossificans which is causing me limited extension movement.

Suggest me anything to get rid of this and to get the extension back.

Almost 3 months have been past but still the stiffness is as usual. Doing physiotherapy at home 2 times a day for 1 hour. Still how much time will it take to get back normal ROM. Flexion is 110 after Physiotherapy. Extension is 160 after physiotherapy.

After finding myositis ossificans my doctor prescribed medicines Indocap 25mg and Prorab 20 for 10 days 3 times a day.

Will these medicines, help in absorbing my myositis ossificans.

There is very slight improvement in my flexion. So how to increase that.

    Please suggest me .

Iam from India and planning to go abroad in a week. So kindly suggest me earliest.

    Thanks in deed.

kindly mail me at this email mmm115 at gmail dot com
