Knee dislocation after a vehicle accident, is physio a must do?

My mom had an accident few days back while she was coming from shopping. She was moving to parking area when another car dashed her and she was off her feet. She escaped with few bruises in her hands and legs but has a major knee dislocation for which she had a surgery the very next day. She has been asked to have a rest for few weeks now and after that the hospital has recommended a private physiotherapist as well. We have already filed a case against the driver, who also was a teenager and I believe might not have a license as well. A well known personal injury lawyer in Toronto will be managing the proceeding for us and I believe until the case gets settles I have manage the expenses, but it might be very high. My question would be is it sorta necessary to have a physio look into her? The physio, the one recommended by the doc, seems to be quite expensive. The hospital expense, lawyer and the physio everything will just shoot up and whole my financial status will be disturbed.

A major knee dislocation doesn't sound good! You don't say how old your Mom is or how fit she is or whether she's anyway educated in (self-)rehabilitation. Trying to keep costs down by not having physio may well have serious consequences for daily living and normal activities if she doesn't manage to regain good movement and strength. She'll probably need good fairly detailed instructions on what to do when to regain function and someone to check how she is managing. The surgeons who operated should give her guidlines. Not everyone can get back to normal by themselves. A physio sounds a very good idea. False economy is not always a good idea unfortunately. I'm not sure of the situation in Canada but do your best to get advice!

    Taping
Physio is very important for rehab after a kneecap dislocation surgery. The treatment may include modalities to control pain and swelling, treatments to improve muscle contraction and function around the patella, and gait training to improve walking. I would strongly suggest you take you mom to the therapist.
