Multifidus of the Transversospinalis Group acts as a deep muscle on the spine, attaching to the sacrum and ilium.
Exercise: When the upper limbs are used to move the upper torso outside of the base of support of the legs the multifidus is activated to stabilise the lower torso. You can notice this by holding your left lower back while extending to reach with your right arm. * This is key as the opposite limb extension activates the contralateral side muscle. Important implications in rehab.
