    Re: starting out in Canada

    Hi

I am a newly qualified Physio from the UK and am currently awaiting immigration into Canada.
Some advice for becoming a physio in canada is patience!!!

You first have to apply to the Canadian Alliance Physio regulators who assess your degree. I have done this and because no one from my University has ever applied it takes 22 weeks for them to give you the answer whether you can sit the exams in the first place!!!!! Costs $750 as well.

Then if they say yes this summer I will have to write the national exams which are done only a few times a year with the last deadline to apply end of the summer. therefore i might not even get to do the exams this year!!!!

Then it takes then a few months to give u the results once u finish them.
Believe me this is the toughest situation and most stressful, more so than my degree as it requires waiting a long time and relying on people. plus the exams combined are near $2000.

So advice for any new grad like me from the UK, think long about it!!! as i am nowhere near in march, and i have been in contact with the alliance since december!! Good luck and any questions just ask as i am going through it at the minute

    Re: starting out in Canada

    Hi

Well it takes the Canadian Alliance of Physiotherapy Regulators 22wks to give you an answer whether your Physio degree is suitable to sit the PCE (physio competance exam). You have to provide all your degree info and all your presvious education info. If there are problems with your degree/course they may require you to take further studies.

If all is ok then you can sit the exams which take place a few times per year.

For best information go to their website www.alliancept.org

As for the US I am unsure about their rules and regulations.
    Hope this helps!

to get job in pediatric physio in canada

    Hi,
I am pediatric physio from Pakistan. How can I start working with children having neurodevelopment problems in rehab centres in Canada. Is it necessary to pass licence to start work as an assistant or in private sector. I have got bobath training from UK abt 2 years ago and still registered with HPC in uk..

    Regards.

    Re: starting out in Canada

How to go about getting a job as a Physio assistant while waiting to pass the PCE? Seems like everyone is looking for Canadian experience! How do you get canadian experience when you've just landed as a new immigrant??? Help please
    Additional Comment I forgot:
Hoe do you go about getting a physiotherapist assistant job while waiting to get your license? Everyone is asking for canadian experience. How do you get that when you're just a newly landed immigrant? Help please

    Re: starting out in Canada

Hello friends, i am going to be immigrate to canada soon but there seems to a problem as i found out is that it take about 12 to 14 weeks to get the credits evaluateds and then wait to write the exam.

as a new immigrant there is need for canadian exp. but how do you get that since one requires licence to work!
what job a physiotherapist can do, are there any non-regulated jobs out there?

    Re: starting out in Canada

    Hello rewa14,
Thanks for your reply, regarding the pce there are two type first written exam secod is clinical exam if if you go to the www.alliancept.org you can get to know all the information regarding the pce,see faq, also if you serch the string right here on physiobob many people have spoken on it and also one of the person who has cleared his pce has given the vital information on it.
regarding the books try tosee as many books as posssible because what they are looking for is the entry level knowledge and the real life problem solving skill in the clinical setting and ethics and regulation.
hope this is of help! do let me know if this has been of assistance .
regarding the types of books, i wll let you know as soon as i find out best of luck for your prepartion for the exmas.

Hey guys, If you have reached Canada, you will have gotten the answer to your question by now, if for some reason you still have not, then let me tell you, the info you got is a ton of crap!!! you could be a Physio with Masters deg from an American University, and have more than 20 years work experience , but Canada is Canada, You WILL have to sit through the PCE here. Best of Luck.,( P.S. If you got this info from you immigration agent, he is a real crook feeding you utter false information, stay away from him.)
