Re: UK Physio taking NPTE ??

Well congratulations on achieving what seems to be the impossible! The FCCPT are evaluating my credentials at the moment but i am sure i will need to top up credits also. Can i ask a few questions please.
Where did you graduate from? How did you get the extra credits through CLEP, do you have to be in the USA to sit these exams? How long did it take to study and then take the exams? Did you use the FCCPT Plan service? Are you studying for the NPTE or have you passed already?

Sorry for all the questions but i havent spoken to anyone who has achieved this the way you have

    Thanks, James

Re: UK Physio taking NPTE ??

Ok guys i need some help!! I have just had my evaluation report back from the FCCPT. My general ed credits fall short by 50 credits. I have enough professional though which is good.

I am not sure what to do. I am thinking of using the PLAN service they offer but how can i top up my credits without being in the states? Im a working physio and cant just start college in the states. Can anyone please help or give some advice on how they worked through this. PLEASE HELP!!!

Re: UK Physio taking NPTE ??

    Hi James,
I graduated from India and am currently working in London.
You can take CLEP exams in London. I guess, that wud b ur best option.
I did use FCCPT plan service, but didn't find it very helpful.
I've recently started studying for the NPTE. Hoping to give the exam in May.

    Deepti

    Hi Deepti,

It sounds like youve had quite a journey already! Thankyou for the information, i wish i was in your position and able to study for the NPTE.

Can i ask what CLEP exams you took? I have fallen short in chemistry, physics, maths, humanities and psychology but dont think i need to take all of these for 50 credits. How many credits were you short?
Also did you take the clep exams online? Where did you take them?

    Thanks again, James

Re: UK Physio taking NPTE ??

    Hi James,
I took CLEP- Introductory Psychology, Human Growth and Development ( 3 credits each) and Chem ( 6 credits).
I'd originally applied for GA state through FCCPT and was short of approx 20 credits in all the subjects that u've mentioned. However, instead of reapplying for GA, I applied for NY state (a complete different process) but got approval this time )

From the info that I'd gathered, the general credit requirement is between 42-60 credits, depending on the state that you are applying for. Some of these subjects are Core subjects, i.e. you'll have to take those exams!! Having said that, some of the states are a bit relaxed with their criteria and may approve your application, if u meet their minimal GC requirement.

Re CLEP, it is a CBT ( computer based test). MCQs. 50 % is the passing score.
There is an examination centre in London. You can check their website for more info. re exam centre, exam syllabus, credits etc.
The administration fee ( 50 UKP) is more than the exam fee ( 70 USD), which is crrazzzy!!! But, still cheaper than all the other options that I'd looked at.

    I hope this helps.

    Deepti

Re: UK Physio taking NPTE ??

    Hi Deepti!

Thanks again for divulging soo much information. This is such a long and painfull process but if i can get to take the NPTE then it may all be worth it!

Thinking about what you said about NYS i asked the fccpt what credit number would be for this state but they said i have to go through a completely seperate process through the NYSED. On theire website though they say i need to have my credentials evaluated by an independant body such as the fccpt so im a bit confused! Who and how did you have yours evaluated. Did you have send of all your academic bits again to the NYSED?

Im also looking at CLEP courses which i can take at that centre in London. Its just some of the courses i need to take are physics and chemistry with lab. Did you fall short in these subjects too? how did you get around this?

Sorry to keep on asking complex questions but youre the only person who seems to have got to the NPTE satge!!

    Thanks, James

Re: UK Physio taking NPTE ??

    Hi James,
For NYS, it is a completely separate process. I'd applied through FCCPT...their role is to collect and verify all the documents and then they send everything to the NYSED for evaluation.
I gave CLEP- chem and had submitted it to the NYSED. I am not sure whether they accepted it or not...as I didn't get any credit eval report from the NYSED.
However, I did get the approval letter

    Deepti
