    Pulled Hamstring

    Physical Agents In Rehabilitation
Hi guys, I'm new to this site and well I was hoping for some advice. I pulled my left hamstring 2 weeks ago. Before that about 2 months before I felt a twinge and after a week resuming my sport.

My physio told me that I had a grade 1 tear in my left tendon upper (near the buttucks) he has been giving me a rub, ultrasound and acupuncture 3 times a week.

He has told me that my left leg is longer than my right by approx 1cm and that i would need insoles. Are they necessary and what do they do?

He has also been telling me to apply Wikipedia reference-linkanti-inflammatory gel on it and also ice 4 times aday. I thought that afer first 48 hrs heat is applied is it not?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you

    Re: help needed

    Hello bale07,
you said it was 2 weeks ago so you are now in subacute stage. You need that:
    1-cold application.
2-cross fibre massage with pain tolerated.
3-active range of motion (knee flexion) or electrical stimulation.
4-gentle stretch(contract-relax technique) within limits of pain. Contract the hamestring isometrically(10 sec) then relax and stretch (10 sec).
Of course you can use heat but ice always benefits. Anti-inflamitry gel is also good for you.I recommend you to worm up before any training to prevent these injuries. If there is leg length discrepancy then you have to wear the insole.I am here if you want any further help.
    bye

    Re: help needed

    Hi bale07,
You are now in healing and repair stage so be patient and wait until your pain is subside. Gentle stretch is very important to reserve muscle flexibility. Begin with the muscle in shortened position then contract it isometrically, without changing in range of motion then relax then elongate it a short distance and so on within limits of pain. Also strengthening is very important because you need to preserve your muscle power but also beyond pain limits. Hydrotherapy is a good choice for you. Listen to your physiotherapist and don't rush into returning to competition.
    I wish you good luck!
