Hi
For treatment of P.F there is no effect by T.N.S/U.S/Laser/Cold/Heat .some times IF current have
effect.Recently Shock Wave THerapy uses for that ,but
according my experiences it is not best solution.I do
IF+Shock Wave+Heel Pad

Hi- this is Bikash , a Sr.PT in India.for this we do use UST and muscle stretching. And we get benefit.Patient never came with same problem. But the fact it should be done with great care. sometimes benefit gained from faradic foot bath.thanks.
continue with UST which i find to be effective, faradic foot bath and try out with ischemic compression over the origin of plantar fascia for 2 mins, its very effective for pain relief.
follow this with taping at the end of the treatment session.
hi
if we check in pubmed, ultrasound, shock wave therapy etc is not showing any effect.iontophoresis shows very good results.many studies are showing positive results
my openion is a detailed assessment keeping movement impairment concept of sherly A shehrmann in mind will lead us in identifying the positional faults and muscle imbalances contributing to it
i am a new physiotherapist in this forum and wants to know your information in using shock wave in trating PF as in my center we have it as a new machine and still didn't use it with pt so if any information about that i apreciate it too much
hi chala
sorry for using medical jargon's as i was not knowing your back ground.
iontophoresis is a physiotherapy treatment technique using electrical current.the current is used to drive ions from a solution into the body.this is an effective way to drive medicines to target area without loss in intensity of medicine.
for eg if we are taking a medicine orally it will pass thru various metabolic process in the body,so only a minimal amount of it only reach the site as in your case foot .
hope i made it simple
I see, well do you have any suggestions for me. I have had Plantar Faciitis for 3 months treating it for one month with standard orthodic's and icing. Last two weeks with streching (the streching is tricky has to be done perfectly as not to aggravate) i started taking 1gram of dried Ginger 3 times daily as aanti-inflammatory (i am told it is powerful) i really want to avoid
NSAIDs. I am not getting much relief! Can you help?
hi chala
if you comes to me with plantar fascitis.i will be doing a detailed assessment.it includes
your general posture
posture related to foot
how you are weight bearing-any deviations
assessment of your walking
arches of foot-weight bearing and non-weight bearing
any muscle tightness in lower lims-ta,hams,quads,TFL
any strength deficits
mobility of the joints of lower limbs
without all these i won't be able to suggest a effective treatment.i suggest you to consult a physio specialised in musculoskeltal conditions

Linbin, what is the equivelent of a Physio in America? I think it is called a Physical Therapist, is that right?
hi chala
yes that's right
Chala -
The frequency of your treatment session will be dependent upon the findings at your initial physical therapy evaluation, but I think you can probably expect to be seen around twice a week.
You can find a nearby PT at the following web site:

Hi
Am in England. Been suffering with Plantar Faciitis for about 3 months. Walking is agony and every so often feels like something tears!! No treatment from doc apart from Naisaids. Will it ever get better? and can I claim mobility allowence or have blue parking badge to help?
get your lumbar spine looked at!
i find i end up treating the lumbar spine for stiffness etc with the majority of people i see who present with "plantar fascitis" type complaints.
i also use taping to unload the fascia to break the pain cycle.
the usual stretching/strengthening as appropriate then aswell.
Interestingly, my sister and I have both suffered from this from time to time and treat it with ibuprofen gel which seems to work quite well for us.

some easy exercises also usefull. but in my opinion the best one is
first get a 1/2 lt. bottle of water and froze it..than roll it under your foot forward and backwards for 10 min.
it really helps your plantar muscles to relax..afterward stretch gastocnemius muscle..additionally orthosis is a good option.
What a brilliant idea! I shall try that next time it crops up!
