Brief Medical History Overview
Disc proplapse.
OK where to start, firstly hello. Im am a 31 year old man. Almost a year ago I was diagnosed with Sciatica and then was diagnosed with a prolapsed disc and wear and tear. I was referred to the hospital and received a few months of physio. I had an MRI scan that confirmed the prolapse. The hospital told me that they did all they could and I should just go away and continue my exercises. They have helped a bit, as I am better than I was in the beginning, but I still am very sore and in pain. Although Im good at masking it!
In the beginning I couldnt sit for 5 minutes now I can but I still get stiffness soreness and pain. I went to see a specialist and he saw my scans and examined me. He told me that I dont qualify for an operation on the NHS because I dont get pain in my feet, (I do almost everywhere else but) He said he would put me on the waiting list for some injections into the spine but that they may not work.
So I have a couple of questions hopefully someone can help me with.
Firstly I have recently made it back to work after 10 months off. I have asked them for an ergonomic chair as Im in some pain, especially at the end of the day Im really sore. They told me they wouldnt unless my GP told them to get me one. Now my GP surgery is useless in my eyes. I wont go into it now but not impressed at all. Im going to have to basically find a chair thats suitable and then book an appointment to tell my GP to recommend it. Otherwise I know he will just stare at me blankly with a 'What do you want me to do?' expression on his face. So the question is can anybody recommend a suitable chair please? The disc affected is in the lower part of the spine, I think its the second from last.
Secondly I want to know how I can push for an operation. Im only 31 and otherwise very fit and healthy. I have been basically told to go away and deal with it. I cant believe this, I know I cant go on the rest of my life like this and also cant believe the NHS and how easily they told me that they wont help me. You can get nose and boob jobs on the NHS but they wont help me apparently!
Thanks for reading and thanks in advance for any help and advice. This forum feels like my last hope.
