Hi there,
I sprained my ankle three weeks ago. It was (I assume) a mild sprain, as apart from the first day or two I was able to walk without pain. I was at home when it happened, so was able to easily do the whole r.i.c.e. thing, and it only swelled and bruised a little bit.
I'm a casual runner, and haven't run since I did this, not wanting to risk further injury. Although I don't have any pain at all (unless I strongly invert it or press it really hard!), it is still somewhat misshapen: I have skinny ankles and normally my ankle bone protudes a lot, but on this side it's kind of rounded and smooth instead of its normal pointiness (if you get what I mean).
I have full range of movement and no pain - my question is, is it safe to run? I'm getting really restless and fed up of resting it, not to mention unfit.
Many thanks for your advice.
Best wishes
Emma

If your balance is also equal side to side with eyes open and closed, the next step is try some jumps (2 feet) and single foot
hops.
If you are proficient with 10 jumps and 10 hops and have no pain, typically you will be able to handle some running. You want
to test it out with a short time e.g. 5 min and a slow pace and build up slowly if you are not having any problems (pain, swelling) Sometimes you won't know until the next day if you have overdone it which is why you want to build slowly.
Good luck.
