    Brief Medical History Overview

Female, Presenting Problem Since: 3 years, Symptom Behaviour: remaining constant, Easing Factors:: Nothing, Investigations: MRI- nothing but shown a mirco tear of affected limb, compartment syndrome testing- over 30 *positive*, No Diabetes, No history of High Blood Pressure, No Medications, No Osteoporosis, No Hx of Cancer, No Unexplained Weight Loss, No Bowel/Bladder issues

Can Chronic Compartment Syndrome cause permanent damage?

    Physical Agents In Rehabilitation
I have had Chronic Compartment Syndrome of the Flexor Hallucis Longus muscle for at least three years now. Surgery was not an option as my symptoms did not fit the criteria of a normal case of the CCS. I have a constant ache of the affected area/limb that gets progressively worse when exercising, especially when walking up an incline. This is like a full feeling that sometimes becomes numb but my main concern is whether it is possible to have permanent damage?

Re: Can Chronic Compartment Syndrome cause permanent damage?

Has your condition been diagnosed by a consultant? Have you tried physiotherapy? I have had good success with acupuncture in the treatment on compartment syndrome as this can help release the fascia and alongside exercises which can help address any muscle imbalances which may cause you to over compensate with a particularly muscle group (ie your flexor hallucis longus). Chronic compartment syndrome tends to be a self limiting condition but the best person to ask is the person who diagnosed your condition as they have your full history and have seen your lower limb alignment.

    Hope this has helped!

    Thank you for your help!
It has been diagnosed and I have tried acupuncture although I do not believe I had enough visits for it to help as I had no improvement. Thank you kindly!
