Question Isolated lateral malleolus fracture - displaced, undisplaced?

    Physical Agents In Rehabilitation
    Hello,

I recently rolled by ankle dropping and landing into a seam of protective matting while rock climbing. The amount of pain I had was pretty manageable and I only recently went for an x-ray a week after the initial injury to find out I have an isolated lateral malleolus fracture.

My questions are; does this look displaced? Is it a complete fracture? What do you anticipate the treatment will be? I have done much reading and have found some sources that say you don't necessarily need surgery for such injuries if the displacement isn't too large.

I have been able to weight bear with little pain and restrictions dorsiflexing the joint, but have stopped walking on it since seeing the x-ray while I await orders from my doctor.

    Aircast Airselect Short Boot
To follow up for others with similar situations,

The distal piece of the malleolus is at a distance that could be a problem later down the line for joint stability, so I'm up for day surgery to have the bone reduced and screwed into place. After the routine surgery, I'll be in a boot and the surgeon said 3 months till I return to light movement - I thought that was a long time frame.
