    Brief Medical History Overview

    Physiotherapy Advice

    Physical Agents In Rehabilitation
    Hi,

I am looking for advice from a physio. I have had a painful upper left arm (non dominant arm) for around 8 weeks which does not seem to be resolving. The pain is not in my shoulder but in the muscle in the front of the upper arm. I have a constant ache now and it is disturbing my sleep at night. I find it uncomfortable to abduct my arm and and sometimes lifting above my head is painful. It has been suggested I have a Wikipedia reference-linkfrozen shoulder but I do not think this is the case, as my shoulder is not stiff and I can put it through a full range of movements relatively easily. I find if I lift my arm up with my other arm this is easier. I am waiting to see a physio on the NHS but I don't know when this will be. I am learning to swim and tend to hold a float in my right hand and use left arm for front crawl movements and I am wondering if this is what is causing the problem. It is not painful when I am in the water and doing front crawl but I do notice it is more painful later.

I am a 52 years old female based in the UK. Basically I am hoping someone can give me a clue as to a diagnosis and how I can treat it. I have not went swimming for a week but this has made no difference. Any advice welcome. Thanks.

    Re: Physiotherapy Advice

May I ask after the quality of Your pain? Does it sting, is it more a dull kind of pain or do you have perhaps electrical discharges in your upper arm?? In this way one can determine which tissue is at the source of your pain...

    Any accidents in Your history?

My opinion: if there are no Physiotherapists available, try to get an appointment with a doctor or maybe a osteopath who can do an examination of Your neck...

    Good Luck,

    Re: Physiotherapy Advice

Could be a simple biceps lesion. Try heat and GENTLE massage to your upper arm. I wouldn't be overstretching it with pulleys just yet but swimming should not be a problem. Good luck!

    Aircast Airselect Short Boot
more likely to be impingement syndrome...

should be simple once you see a physio.

If it is bothering you, why not see a private physio for a few sessions. If you explain that cost is an issue, they should be able to confirm a diagnosis and prescribe exercises and stretches for you to do at home in the first session and then check everything on a second session and that should keep you going until NHS physio comes thru...
