That's a pretty disappointing approach to health care, to wait 'and see if it dislocate[s] again'! I think you can make an effort now to prevent this from happening, as I like to say an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
Yes both times it has dislocated it has been the same movement, although the two times it has dislocated my coach said that my arms started behind my head and were thrown forward
Was it an anterior, posterior, superior or inferior dislocation?
I have seen a physio, my shoulder has a lot of movement forwards and I can also take my arms quite a long way back verticaly beyond my ears (does that make sense)?
Yes indeed, by the sounds of it you are describing shoulder extension to beyond 90 degrees.
I have been doing exercises since the last time it dislocated 8months ago. But it doesnt seem to be working.
If you have been completing the same exercises for the last 8 months, and have not been re-evaluated, had treatment modified, or progressed in treatment I don't see why this would work. Physiotherapeutic exercises are not as simple as 1 exercise can solve all problems. Our bodies adapt to absolutely everything that we do. Whatever you do in every moment of your life your body adapts, be it in terms of bony changes, muscular changes, even changes in our brain! The key is determining what the fault, or tendency is towards a specific problem, identifying it, and creating a progressive management and treatment plan. I believe that based on the high level of mobility at your shoulder joint, the type of sport you participate in, and the recurence of injury that you need a specific programme that can help you to activate your shoulder stabilisers, and strengthen them for athletic fitness, as well as enhance their proprioceptive response during high loading for activity
I am due to see my phyisio in the next week but my problem is that i need to compete in two weeks time so at the moment a temporary treatment is needed
I would book a new appointment soon with a really good physiotherapist who can provide you an intense rehabilitation program. It is definitely your best bet.
Thanks for help
