Timelines for the credentals process in Canada by the Allaince.

    HI,

I applied for my education credential assessment in Canada Oct. 2011. Has anyone applied in 2011 for credtial assessment. Let us share our timelines here? Seems there is backlog according to the alliance website. Even they have not updated information since August 2011.

    cheers

The Alliance now has an update page on their website. They promise to update the timeline on a weekly basis.

Re: Timelines for the credentals process in Canada by the Allaince.

    Hi,

I'm just at the beginning of my credentialing journey. I have submitted all the required paper work and after about 6 weeks I have been classified as "non-precedent"... which according to the website comes with a 51 week waiting period. I find this rather frustrating, but I can see that I'm not alone. What I would like to know is that if that time frame is just to have a result, or if it includes PLAR program as well? Also, does it include cases that did not submit all their documentation correctly and more clarification was required?

I'm hoping for a good result, as everything that I have seen is required I have covered in undergrad and post grad courses. I just want to know if they have received all the required paper work, is 51 weeks still a likely time frame? I'm 6 weeks down... 45 to go?

    Hi,

How long did it take you to complete your PLAR? How many courses did you have to do and what was the time frame between the time The alliance received your completed PLAR certificates and issuing your exam eligibility?

    or

should the alliance say and then only i can proceed ?

Re: Timelines for the credentals process in Canada by the Allaince.

I have done my physiotherapy from india and I want to start my credential process soon but i heard that credential evaluation is taking time, they ask for PLAR for most students, so how much time it takes to complete PLAR?
    - Usually in which courses international student get problem?
    - How they assess our education? How can i know how much credit hours in each courses they require

-I read somewhere if i do master in physiotherapy form canada . i don't need to apply for credential process, i will be eligible for PCE exam directly.. is it true?
-Can u suggest me what r courses i can apply besides mpt in canada?
-what are the most relevant & useful books to prepare for the pce exam?
    - suggest me what is best to prepare for pce exam, study myself or taking help of bridge course or apply for mpt?

Re: Timelines for the credentals process in Canada by the Allaince.

    Hello Kitty M

Answers to most of ur questions have already been given in detail in various pages in this forum. Pls take ur time to go through it.

I will answer some of the questions U have asked to which answers might not be available here:

Credit hours or course work deficiencies cannot be calculated by the applicants, since the Alliance have their own tool to evaluate the credentials, we will only know once we get the results. Just that most Indian students get similar courses is the best guess in this regard.

If you want to do Masters in physiotherapy in Canada you need to be eligible to practice in Canada, since it is part of the practical aspect of the course, and for that you should have already a license in the province you are enrolling for your masters. However you can do courses like Masters in medical rehabilitation which do not need you to have an eligibility to practice. You might be able to write the PCE directly if you do that since you might cover you earlier content gaps. Please google for this if you need more info.

Books and methods to prepare for the PCE, from what you have asked, is not in the near future for you, so concentrate on what is at hand and do what is needed without delay. All the rest you will get to know as time goes by. All the best.

Re: Timelines for the credentals process in Canada by the Allaince.

Hi Vengop, sorry for the delay. You can definitely go ahead and do the courses if you so wish to do it. In fact it is a smart move and can save you a lot of time. Just be careful that you do course that are already pre-approved by the Alliance, so that they will accept their results. If you want some help to know about pre approved university courses maybe I can help you, but Pls be specific about ur doubts, and not like some other ppl who just come in here and expect to be spoon fed everything. Thanks and sorry once again for the delay in replying.

    Hello Everyone..
As it is mentioned in notification like If you are interested in becoming registered in the province of Ontario, you may pre-register with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario before beginning the mandatory processes with The Alliance. Although pre-registration is optional, the College highly recommend..
Is it really useful? How it will help in credential process?

Re: Timelines for the credentals process in Canada by the Allaince.

    Hello Everyone,

It is really great to see a form where people are helping each other with valuable information. I am currently in Brampton and waiting for credential process to get over. I just received the assessment results and I have been told to do following courses :

Criterion 5 : Geriatrics including elderly motor skills
    Criterion 6 : *Independent practice/ autonomous practice/ primary care
    *Evidence based practice

I seriously think we have covered these in our BPT and MPT. By looking at replies to the blog I can see some of the folks have got similar courses. Any suggestion on what should be my next step .... ? As we all know it is very tricky to get back to colleges back in India and ask them detailed info on above courses. Suggestions will really help.

Also if in worst case scenario , my college does not send the info on above courses, do anyone of list of approved colleges from where I can complete these courses in advance rather than waiting for another 2 months delay.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Regards,
    Rashmi

    Hi,

I am a UK physio have just finally had my documents assessed by the Candian Alliance only took 53 weeks, and don't have to do the PLAR. As a UK physio depending on how long ago you qualified i think our education is very simular, so we dont have to do the PLAR, only the two exams.

    Hope this helps.
