    Brief Medical History Overview

Unhappy Partial Ligament tearing in wrist

    Physical Agents In Rehabilitation
    Hi,

About 2.5 months ago, I fell on my wrist. I felt fine at the time, but a few days later, my wrist started hurting severely to the extent that I couldn't use it. I went to hospital and I had some X-rays done which proved it wasn't a fracture. I was then sent for a Wikipedia reference-linkMRI scan as they believed I had done some ligament damage. The MRI scan indicated partial tearing of several ligaments in my wrist, so I was told to keep my wrist in a splint for 6 weeks.

It has now been 6 weeks, and I've been told to take physio to strengthen my wrist and re-gain movement. However, my wrist still hurts. If I put any weight on it (such as using it get it up), it hurts alot. Small things such as rotating also causes some problems. I still use the brace for travelling and sleeping for ease and comfort. However, I was wondering whether this is how a wrist is meant to feel after being sprained?

I'm wondering whether my wrist is healed, or whether there is still some damage which hasn't fully recovered.

I'd appreciate any thoughts on this! Thanks.

    Kit

Re: Partial Ligament tearing in wrist

    Hi

there is still a chance that you injury could not have healed. But a good physician will try every conservative measure possible before subjecting anyone to surgical intervention.

After your bracing you may still feel your original Sx as the ligaments that were injured have hopefully healed and tightened up. That being said, over use or over loading freshly healed lig's will reproduce your Sx perhaps to levels that surpass your original level (hopefully not)

Give this route of recovery about another 3 weeks. You should start to notice some kind of improvement. During this recovery don't go back to activities as normal. your hand is still injured. be nice to it....

    Hope that helps

We know that ligaments take 12 weeks to heal. i recommend using a dorsal wrist brace for a few weeks. surgery had a long rehabilitation period also. it is not the quick fix option.
