    Brief Medical History Overview

    Achilles Tendon Rupture - Rehab

    Physical Agents In Rehabilitation
    Hello,

15 weeks ago, I suffered a partial tear to my Achilles tendon whilst playing sports in a gymnasium.

I was placed in a slanted plaster cast for 6 weeks, followed by 6 weeks in an Aircast. The final 2 weeks with the Aircast, I only used it when going outdoors.

I am now back in shoes (well, big clunky boots to be exact) and am finding a slow increase of motion in the leg.

I have been seeing my PT for the last 3 weeks, and he has been administering ultrasound and EMS treatment.

This week I also started light swimming, and will be joining a gym next week to start building some strength back.

At this point, I am just wondering if there are any suggestions as to what else I can be doing, or what I shouldn't be doing to get myself on the mend.

    Thank you in advance

I would get into a Pilates Studio to work on the reformer machine. This is very useful for rehabilitating post achilles rupture. In general walking is going to be good. Being with something that has a slight heal so you gait can be as normal as possible (perhaps use a heal lift if that helps as well). The over the next few weeks work towards remove in the raises and flattening the show option until you have a normal gait.

Slow and steady I am afraid as it is easy enough to re-rupture if you do too much to soon. I have seen it several times! I would also get off the ultrasound and the like unless it's an extra. Get some deep tissue massage to the calf and get exercising at the physio's. Tell them you want them to 'work you out' during the sessions
