in regard to my post....
ps..
I have a heel problem,
and am now getting lower back problems due to this.
what will this exercise technique be doing fo me when doing it??
standing on a step
so heels are over the edge
hold onto a rail in front or other
move body to the right
then up on tip toes
then move body back to the left
then feet back down
start again........
repeat/s
(forms a square action so to speak)
what does this exercise work exactly?
- cover when carrying this exercise out?
back? calfs? ankles/heels? all maybe????
any and all opinions appreciated....
would love to know what you think
Thank you for your time .

You've described an eccentric calf drop exercise for the left... it's an exercise used often to treat achilles tendinopathy.
As with most exercises it won't work just one muscle as many muscles will have to work to stabilise the position your in... but it's mostly a calf/achilles exercise
Ah right, thanks for putting a name to it ...pudding bowl...
this would explain why my calfs ache..
but this must be good - at least shows I am doing it right 'I hope'
Forgot to mention I also have to repeat this one BUT with the knees bent this time...does this one have a name to???
thanks again
Sam
Sounds like your physio is onto it. provided you have a achilles tendinopathy
"Alfredson et al 1998" is the referance - 3sets of 15 repititions 2 times a day 7 days a week with knee bent and straight.
The article showed all patients in the study returned to sport in 12 weeks following that protocol.
For the names of the exercises - knee bent is eccentric soleus and straight is eccentric gastrocnemius
it's my left achilles tendon,
been told it is tendonitis, or is it spelt tendonitous, sorry if spelt wrong
been doing calf stretches in a few/ several ways, but since been given this particular exersise, it doesnt seem to be as tight (stiff in the calf and heel area) still getting the burning feeling tho in the heel and the left side of my left leg/ side of the calf!
thanks for responding
