    Brief Medical History Overview

    (weird?) hip pain

    Physical Agents In Rehabilitation
    Hi all,

I'm organising my problem into little categories below to make it easy to understand.

I have developed a weird pain in my hip. I say weird because I cannot figure out exactly what causes it, nor which activities I should stop doing to prevent this pain or let it heal.

Location: the pain occurs in the front of my right hip, slightly to the side, a couple of inches below the bony-protruding part of my hip. You could call this 'upper thigh', perhaps.

    - it's not the 'socket' of the hip or any other bones, or as far as I can tell, the muscle. I think it's tendon related.

The Pain: The pain I get is weird. It feels like something is seizing up or cramping. It doesn't occur at the same time as any particular movement. It doesn't happen when I run, kick, squat with weight, or anything. It occurs afterwards it seems.

When it occurs: it occurs only sometimes when my hip seems to be 'flexed', as in, if I sit on my knees on the floor, for example, it may, but not always, feel like it's 'seizing' up, and I will get a weird sharpish pain there. The remedy seems to be the straighten my hip and do a quad stretch. However other times it occurs, is when my hip is flexed in the opposite direction.
For example. When I do a bench press in the powerlifting style, with my back arched and my legs tucked behind me( Like this: http://www.xtremeintensity.com/chalk...97.5-bench.jpg) I wont feel anything whilst doing my reps. But when I get off the bench and stand up, I will feel it.

It also occurs (sometimes) to a slight extent if I sit in a chair for an extended period of time. Or soon after kickboxing if I do roundhouse kicks with my right leg (I have since stopped doing these in my muay thai classes until this resolves)
But it also seizes up after boxing and other exercise.

    Sidenote:
    activities I participate in:
    - Mixed Martial Arts
classes in boxing, kickboxing, and grappling twice a week
    - Weight training.
3 full-body workouts each week, mostly focusing on compound lifts, like bench press, bent rows, squats and deadlifts. Shoulder 'pre-hab' as well.

    What I think:
It may be tendons or a flexibility issue. I'm not particularly flexible and certainly have some trouble areas, like glute activation (I have been told)
But I haven't been stretching to try to fix this in case it makes it worse. I've just been stretching in medium intensities.

i want to ask you questions:
1-when did the pain appear i mean that which activity was done to make that pain appear for the first time (kicking a ball , a strenous activity using your quad. , over stretched quad.?
2- is your quad. always cramping or when you rest it become free and normal?

The first time it appeared was after a particular week when I did a lot of hard right leg roundhouse kicks. I also played indoor soccer that week too, so I was kicking a ball during that week.

It only seems to happen when my hip is 'contracted' (I guess that's the word), ie when I am sitting for a long period of time, or extended, like when I do bench press. It happens after this.

But it doesn't feel exactly like a muscle cramp, there's just a slightly similar feeling as if something is contracting or spasming.

from all i read from your information u have muscle strain may be rectus femoris or one of the adductors
whatever it is , you must take rest fro strenous or sportive training for at least 2 weeks and you mjust see sports physicaltherapist for deep friction massage and good rehabilitation regiem

    Re: (weird?) hip pain

    Hello, I have another question.

Obviously soccer and kicking are out of the question, are there any other movements I must stay away from?

I don't feel any pain from running, nor from squatting.

Am I allowed to continue squatting with weight and going for jogs to stay fit?

    Aircast Airselect Short Boot
about runing and squating i have an advice . you should delay it for one week to give chane for healing . but squating try to delay it more i dont want any heavy activites over quadriceps or hip flexors but as i said you must see physiotherapist to apply deep friction massage for proper orientation of collagen fiber and proper healing and sessions of stretching is pain allowed that .
