    Re: Limited Registration Australia

    Hilary and Claire

There is a shortage of physiotherapists in Australia and employers are very likely to be more than happy to offer employment and support your application. This system has been in place in Victoria and South Australia for several years and has not hindered applicants for limited registration. The difference now is that rather than the Board sending documents to the APC, the applicant must send them to the APC and then apply to the Board. This is due to the national law requirements.

You can search for jobs online at seek.com.au and physiotherapy.asn.au. You could also place an advertisement with physiotherapy.asn.au

Hope this helps you both - Australia does need experienced physiotherapists.

    Re: Limited Registration Australia

    Hey guys.

Well, I am actually doing what you are proposing at the moment! I'm working in Melbourne at the moment. Been in South Aus before here and I came in Jan on a years Working Holiday Visa.

I initially got 'Limited Registration' with the board of South Australia back in January and got an offer of a job before I came out here. Then, with all the change on July 1st, my registration is now 'Limited Registration in the Public Interest', so yea: that is the correct registraion.

As the other post says, employers are more than willing to work with you on the process and fill in the 2 most important bits of your registraion which is:
    a) a letter saying you will have a supervisor and have been offered work,
    and
    b) a copy of some form of professional indemnity insurance.

For the latter, most public and private hospitals will place you on there insurance, so it costs you nothing. If you work in private practice (which most MSK will be), then it's likely that you will need to get your own insurance, costs upto $800 for the year I think. CSP insurance doesn't cover you over here.

My advice is email physio managers about jobs and try to get it all sorted before you leave the UK. That's what I did back in December, and sorted out work in June for me to start in July. The process with the AHPRA is VERY SLOW at the moment due to all the change, and what you don't want is to be sitting in Australia with a visa ticking down and no work due to the registration not coming through.

With re. to the working holiday visa. You only get a years WHV here. You; have to do at least 88 days of work in fruit picking, construction, farming etc................in a 'rural' part of Australia (its all post code related, check out the visa website)
If you do that, you can apply to get a second WHV while your in Australia. Totally ridiculous if you ask me. But that might be something you fancy.

Claire: Few questions. How much experience do you have as a UK physio? For private MSK I think you may struggle with 'Limited Registration' in place. Mainly due to the 'supervised practice' aspect of the rules & regs of 'Limited Registration' and the amount of actual supervision someone in private practice can offer, but you never know.

You could get fully registered before you come here and save yourself a little bit of hassle you know. Do you have more that 12 months UK physio experience................and have you heard of the New Zealand route?

It's honestly not hard to find work as a physio here, it's just the registration malarky that's a pain.

    Hope that helps.
Fire any more questions across if you need.

    Liam.

    Re: Limited Registration Australia

Hi There, can anyone shed any light for me on limited registration please! I have managed to find an employer that can employ me under these terms, I also have sent of the application for assessment for limited registration which is curently being processed. I am now trying to fill out the last part the actual limited registration application ready for when the APC hopefully approve my skills to work in this employment. I am confused as the limited registrationa application just says i need to get my empoyer to fill out the back two pages of the form, write a letter saying they know and accept there responsibilities as a supervisor and finally a letter saying why they need someone under limited registration in the public interest. This i can do.. however in the procedures of supervisors documents.. it states before i start employment i need to fill out part A and B to assess my competence and make a supervision plan with my employer. How can i have my competence assessed if i am not allowed to treat pateints yet as im not registered? and also im not in the coutry yet as i start my job a week aftre i get there?! does anyone understand this process or have completed it? as i leave the country in 2 weeks and need to sort it all out before i go, i thought i was all sorted with a job and the app going through.. now i feel a bit stuck?!! help?!

With regards to the limited registration, can you change employers??? if yes can you start working for the employer while you wait for a new limited registration application to come through?
